A brief itinerary of places to go before I leave Silver City and relocate in ‘T or C’ (Truth or Consequences), NM:
- Gila Cliff Dwellings
- Kayaking on Bill Evans Lake
- A motorbike ride to ‘City of Rocks’ State Park
I’m cheerfully awaiting the arrival of my motorbike, it’s currently being shipped and it has made it as far as an El Paso warehouse, according to the trucking company tracking system. I’m expecting a call from the driver, might be early next week, so I’m kinda staying close to the motel for that reason. Funny how I used to drive a truck, and now I’m on the other end of that equation… I’m not gripped about the arrival time, I just wanna be here when the bike does arrive, it’s not like I’m gonna give the driver grief, lol. I paid a little extra this time to have the bike fully assembled before delivery… I’ve assembled crated bikes in the past, no worries, but I’m glad I went ahead and paid for assembly, otherwise I’d be assembling it in my motel room, lol. 😉
I’m not joking either, I already retrieved my tools from the storage unit and I have 4 quarts of Castrol 4-stroke motorcycle oil in the car, along with a plastic basin I use for changing oil in cars & cycles. I’ll knock out that task behind the motel, there’s a shady spot back where I put my BBQ, and the ground is level enough for me to easily do the job. I like Castrol Oil, it has never let me down in motorbikes, or cars as well. I use the Castrol ‘High Mileage Synthetic Oil’ in my Camry, which has nearly a quarter-million miles on the odometer, lol. Cheap b@stard that I am, I’ll run that car into the dirt before I even think about buying another vehicle, probably a pickup truck next time around, and secondhand at that, aye? Best value that way, ya just gotta buy it from the right person, someone who has taken care of it properly so it’s not thrashed. 😬
Well, I reckon I’ll mix another drink and watch some TV, I’ll be glad when this motel saga ends! But the motel is serving a purpose: all my cats are safe & sound, and we’ll soon be under our own roof again! Hallelujah! I’ll have some home rehab work to do for 2 or 3 months, just to bring that lake home up to my standards, but that estimate of the time includes recreational breaks, lol. Can’t wait to go sailing on the lake, I already ordered a new mainsail for the Topper, though I’m gonna use a Laser 4.7 (square meters) sail from Intensity Sails, much cheaper that way… I’ll lose some square footage on the sail, but the Topper hull is lightweight plastic [HDPE] so I don’t think it’ll make much difference, as long as the loose-footed sail has a “luff sleeve” to fit over the Topper mast. The Topper sailboat was made in England, and I bought it for a lousy $100 off Craigslist (Albuquerque), lol. Not a bad deal for a small cartoppable sailboat, I’ll buy new running rigging for the boat and still have an inexpensive “megayacht!” 😁
P.S. I’ve already been to ‘City of Rocks’ since my arrival here in Silver City two months ago, I even posted some pics of that excellent state park at another site… might as well include a link, it’s a cool place if you like geology & physical geography. Some of the rocks & boulders can be climbed, though they are volcanic in origin… great place to camp, with the dispersed sites in among the rocks, makes for nice privacy. I’d like to camp there under a full moon, that would be fun! Do a little moonlight scrambling & bouldering, lol, same way friends & I did it in J. Tree years ago. If it weren’t for the cats, I would’ve already camped there, but the cats are top priority right now, and will remain top priority until we are under our own roof again. Meh, no worries, the rocks aren’t going anywhere… not in my lifetime, anyway, lol. Here’s that link! 😎
