Wild Swimming Spots – Share Your Favorites!

I’ve recently discovered the joy of wild swimming, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite outdoor activities. There’s nothing quite like swimming in a natural lake, river, or hidden pool surrounded by nature.

A few things I’ve learned about wild swimming:

Always check for currents, depth, and underwater hazards before diving in.
A good pair of water shoes can save your feet from sharp rocks.
Early morning swims are the most peaceful – and often the most scenic.

I’m on the lookout for more amazing wild swimming spots. Do you have any favorites you’d recommend? What tips do you have for staying safe and enjoying a swim in the wild?

As a former OTR (Over-The-Road) truck driver (aka long-haul trucker), I’d swim in unusual locations when I was too far in the boondocks for there to be any truck stops, showers, etc. Some memorable locations: on the shore of Lake Superior in Ashland, Wisconsin; Tappan Lake in Ohio; the Rocky Broad River in Chimney Rock, North Carolina. You are correct when you recommend water shoes or moccasins, sometimes the water can be a bit murky and it is hard to see any hazards! Or in the case of running water (i.e. rapids), the natural foam hides such hazards! Once I am settled into my lake home, I will post some pics of those locations I mentioned, I have some old school photo albums from my ‘trucking daze’ and the pics are easy to find… but the box of albums is in storage right now, so that posting will have to wait. 🏞

A suggestion for whoever runs this site: make it easier for site members to post photos, as the whole ‘URL’ thing is a bust. If you make it so folks can simply upload pics from files or camera cards, you’ll probably get more site traffic. Just my $.02 on that topic… I was going to post pics of the swimming hole (lake) I visited yesterday, but had to include a link to another site instead, which probably isn’t what you’re trying to accomplish with your own website, aye? My little Canon cam has a card which slips into the laptop computer, making photo transfer really easy at other websites. 🤔
